The Business: Law to Entrepreneurship

The Challenge

Career coaching for lawyer who felt something was missing and wasn’t getting a sense of fulfilment from his work.

How we worked together

Diagnostics:

A semi structured interview coupled with feedback and discussion of results from personality, strengths and career anchor profiles suggested the client was feeling frustrated in their current role and despite enjoying great success in his work, felt he was at a career cross roads.

Objective:

To identify career path through exploring and challenging potential career options.

Coaching:

The early sessions focused on coaching through the Career Anchors exercises and a values based exercise. The outcome of which was an ‘ah-ha’ moment with the client realising that a legal career was fulfilling their parents, rather than their own career choice. And, that whilst very successful they did not feel that being a lawyer was in alignment with their own values. Further coaching around their values and strengths revealed a desire for a more entrepreneurial career. We explored and challenged various options, which helped them realise they would love to set up and run a cocktail bar in a warm country with an outdoors lifestyle.

Outcome:

They resigned from their law firm to set up a chain of successful cocktail bars in Australia, where they are extremely happy leading a very challenging yet rewarding life.

Client said
“..so thank you so much for helping me to achieve this [own business and chosen lifestyle], as we really are enjoying a very happy time along this path.”
